What attracts me to the architecture of Rome and the mountain towns of Italy is how so many of the buildings have pieces of antiquity mixed in with elements that have been added bit by bit over the centuries. The country reflects the construction techniques of over 2700 years of adding on top of what was built before and in that respect, it is truly unique.
Below are some impressions from Italy, special attention is always paid to the thousands of varieties of arches that may be constructed. Many of the photos at the end of this gallery are from a mountain town on the Amalphi coast called Ravello. I strongly recommend that you visit it if you ever get to Italy.
